Chapter 2 & 3 Questions

1. Where do the ranch hands keep their personal belongings such as soap, razors and magazines?
They keep their personal belongings on a shelf(crate nailed to the wall) and one hook.

2. Candy, the old swamper who shows George and Lennie to their bunks, is missing what limb?
Candy is missing his right hand.

3. What evidence does the old swamper give that the ranch boss is a “pretty nice fella”?
He gives evidnence that the ranch boss is a pretty nice fella by stating that on Christmas he lets all the guys have Whiskey and let them beat on the Stablebuck.

4. What evidence is there that the boss is not a working man?
You can see that the boss is not a working man because he wears a tall hat, cowboy boots, and is never talked about in these two chapters. He's always in the house.

5. According to the old swamper, what is Curley good at?
According to Candy, Curley's good at boxing and getting into trouble with other workers.

6. According to the old swamper, why does Curley wear a work glove on his left hand?
According to Candy Curley wears a glove with vaseline in it to pleasure his wife.

Chapter 3

1. Why does George say Lennie will want to sleep in the barn that Friday night?
George says Lennie will want to sleep in the barn that Friday night because he wants to be with his puppy that Slim gave him.

2. According to George, how did he end up traveling with Lennie?
According to George, he ended up traveling with Lennie because they were childhood friends and he didnt feel comfortable leaving by himself because of his social dispostion.

3. What happened that made George stop playing dirty tricks on Lennie?
George told him to jump in the water, and Lennie did and almost drowned. George got him out, and felt bad and vowed never to play another trick on him again.

4. Why did George and Lennie have to flee from Weed?
George and Lennie had to flee from Weed because Lennie wanted to feel some girls red dress when she screamed and ran Lennie held onto the dress, and she later told officials that he tried to rape her.

5. Who makes the final decision on whether or not Candy’s old dog should be shot?
Carlson makes the final decison on whether or not Candy's dog should be shot.

6. What is significant about the letter Whit reads from the Western magazine?
Whit's friend William Truner wrote a letter to the Western Magazine and it was published in it.
