OMAM Review

1. Historical Background:
This storyline is set in the year 1929, around the start of the Great Depression. Also during this time racisim was flourishing through the United States. Migrant Workers were beginning to lose hope of ever finding a steady job.

2. Setting, Chapter 1:
Time -1929
Place -A clearing in a forset 10 miles away from a workers ranch.
Environment -Very relaxed

What is a novella?
A novella is a work of fiction intermediate in length and complexity between a short story and a novel.

What was the Great Depression?
A world wide economic downturn beginning on wall street in 1929.

What were some of the causes of the Great Depression?
stock market crash, the dust bowl, production shortages, consumer shortages.
What is a migrant worker?
A person who migrates from region of a country to another searching for employment.

Do migrant workers exist today? Where? what kinds of jobs do they have?
Recent estimates by the U.S. Department of Labor suggest that approximately 1.3 million U.S. citizens migrate between states, earning their living by working in the agricultural industry. They usually work in the western states.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. & Malcom X

Born (when/where): May 19, 1925 in Ohama, Nebraska
Education: He dropped out of the 8th grade after his teacher said that he would never be anything in life. He decided to educate himself.
Family: Betty Sanders(X) was his wife, they married in 1957 and had six children, Attallah, Qubilah, Ilyasah, Gamilah, Malaak and Malikah.


Fought for: Civil Rights
Believed that: White Society actively worked to keep African-Americans from acheiving political, economic and social success. He believed in the Islamic religion.
Died (when/how):Febrauary 21,1965/ he was assinated

Education:Younge street elementary,

Family:He married Corretta Scott King on 18 June 1953. They had four children:Yolanda, Martin Luther III, Dexter, and Bernice.



Fought for:Peace between all races and cultures.

Believed that:Violence is not the answer.

Died(when/how):He was assinated.
